Hi! We are relocating to Dallas (Grand Prairie) at the end of the summer. I am fluent in Spanish and have been wanting to teach my kids Spanish. They understand me but respond in English. We currently live in Oregon by my husband’s side of the family, who are all English-only speakers. I want to find a pre-school for my four year old son and an after school program for my six year old son that teaches Spanish immersion. I was reading the posts for others and would like to find out more information. Idalie

Hola,
We live in Grand Prairie as well. We are a bilingual Spanish/English also. My son’s are 2 1/2 and 3 months. My oldest son speaks 95% Spanish and 5% English. Spanish is the home language. Let me know what you would like to know about the area.

Hello, I found this great website mommy online DOT org (no spaces between mommy and online, and replace DOT with .) It has a list of Chinese schools in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and there were two that I did not know about. I copied that section here: I hope this may help some of you. Stefani.

Stefani, thank you so much for providing infos about the schools. Like you, I am CIA too, Chinese Indonesian American. I am a single mom with a 10 years old daughter and we both speak mainly English and Indonesian. My mother lives with us who speaks both and Chinese. I would like to enroll my daughter in a Chinese school nearby where my mom can take her by bus on the weekend since I have to work. We just move to Plano from Michigan 3 weeks ago. Any info? Thank you..

I would like to recommend the Dallas Hai-Hwa Overseas Chinese School – http://haihwa.org
Some of their staff go to my church and I know them to be sincere and active in educational initiatives in the plano/richardson community.

Hi Ivy, I am not sure which part of Plano you live in, but Mission of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church has a class where most of the children are not from Chinese speaking family, so that will be great for your daughter. Check out some of the schools in my previous posting as well, you may find some that are close to you. One more place I found: DCBC: Dallas Chinese Baptist School, has Chinese school on Sundays. Moderator, is there a way to send e-mail to a poster? I don’t want to post my e-mail address here, but I would be happy to chat with her some more about this. Thanks.

If there was an option for Spanish immersion that’d really be something to consider.
I agree with this suggestion. Spanish is a very useful language from a global point of view. If either or both parents spoke Spanish, it would help with the homework thing. We have Calgary friends whose kids are in a Language immersion program. Mom is Mexican-Canadian. Dad is American-Canadian. The kids’ schooling is supplemented by summer vacations with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in Mexico.

We are moving from San Francisco, CA to Dallas in early January 2010. I am looking for a mandarin immersion program for my 4 year old son. We are an all english speaking family but my son has been in a mandarin immersion program in SF for the last 2 years and I want desperately to continue his mandarin learning. We are currently enrolled at The Chinese American International School which is one of the first mandarin immersion PreK-8th grade schools in the country. The students do 50% of their instruction in english (using the Montessori philosophy in preschool) and 50% in mandarin. I would love to find a similar program in Dallas. Any information about Dallas programs would be great. And, if we can’t find a preschool program i would love to hire a mandarin tutor and mandarin babysitters so any info regarding these would also be great! Thank you so much.

Hi Stephanie, the “Dallas Modern Chinese School” link isn’t working. Are there any schools or Chinese Immersion schools in Dallas proper? We live near white rock lake.
