I am a graduate student at Seattle University getting my Special Education endorsement.  I am writing a paper focusing around non verbal children who are raised in multilingual household.  This comes from a student I had last year whose parents each had a different native language, the mother was also well spoken in English and the 3 year old girl was in my English classroom.  She speaks no words in any language but can respond to directions in all three languages. Is this a typical speech delay in multi-lingual children?  Do you have any research on this that you can point me to and any suggestions for preschool teachers and the child’s parents?  Should she have an SLP teaching her English? She currently has one.  Also, my student also has gross and fine motor delays as well, could this all be connected?
